Job Overview:
We are seeking a committed and safety-oriented Chemical Engineer to oversee plant operations related to repacking, containment, and waste handling. The ideal candidate will ensure regulatory compliance, maintain high service standards, and continuously seek improvements in operational efficiency and sustainability.
Key Responsibilities:
Supervise daily repacking, containment, and maintenance activities, ensuring operations are safe and efficient.
Ensure proper handling and processing of Trade Industrial Waste (TIW) in line with regulatory standards.
Conduct On-the-Job Training (OJT) for staff and ensure strict adherence to safety protocols and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Collaborate with operations, sales, and customer service teams to ensure consistent service quality.
Monitor outgoing containment expenses, encourage recycling, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Carry out daily inspections to uphold 5S workplace practices, equipment standards, and safety compliance.
Lead daily safety toolbox meetings and ensure correct usage of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Continuously assess and improve existing procedures to optimise throughput and reduce costs.
Work with lab chemists to develop new processes for handling unfamiliar or complex waste materials.
Ensure full compliance with Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) regulations and maintain ISO 45001 standards.
Prepare and evaluate daily and monthly reports on operations, including cost, quality, productivity, and non-conformance, and implement necessary improvements.
Support the preparation of annual budgets and monitor expenses to stay within approved limits.
Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to design and implement preventive maintenance plans.
Provide regular training to staff on safe waste handling, PPE requirements, risk assessments, and emergency procedures.
Lead emergency response efforts for incidents such as chemical spills or fires, and conduct regular emergency drills.
Additional Duties:
Carry out other tasks as assigned by management.
As a member of the ISO Committee, contribute to the development and review of SOPs, risk assessments, and change management documents, and participate in internal audits.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in a related role.
