IMI Venture Studio operates as a catalyst for innovation within IMI plc. We incubate new ideas, technologies and business models that will futureproof the energy and industrial sector. How we achieve this is by partnering with founders to build new ventures.

We are looking for a Founder in Residence with hands-on startup experience who can fulfil the critical needs of building a new venture from idea to business launch.

• Access to IMI engineering capabilities and market expertise for founders to better understand complex market conditions and refine their startup offerings.

• Early-stage funding for founders who will be provided with the initial capital their startups require to move from business idea to prototype and beyond.

As Founder in Residence, your role is to:

• Co-develop the idea, validate real customer pain points and jobs to be done: Identify, iterate, and test for a specific customer segment/industry
• Build and validate a scalable business model: Identify the market opportunity, build a prototype, test your go-to-market strategy, define unit economics and financial model.
• Launch your venture: Acquire credible customers for a proof-of-concept, recruit in co-founders and early employees, and define your operations and fund-raising plan.
• After launching an MVP in the market, start defining product-market fit and commercial scalability.

As a Founder in Residence you will get:

• Dedicated resources to validate your startup - from idea to initial funding to market launch and beyond.
• The duration is between 3 to 6 months, during which you’ll be expected to be working full time on validating your startup.
• Once your startup has completed its validation process, the co-founders collectively will hold a majority equity stake, with IMI providing initial funding your startup.

Your background

• 8+ years managing a team, with energy/industrial experience a plus
• 5+ years in a senior operating role with P&L responsibility
• Outstanding leadership with ability to engage C-level and board members
• Previous startup experience, including building teams and fundraising preferred
• Self-driven, resourceful, with an ability to work well independently
• Execution-oriented with ability to manage complex projects
• Ability to work effectively with and across multiple corporate groups and silos
