The IT Director is responsible for leading the Information Technology department for the company ensuring the execution of IT strategy, operations, security, infrastructure, and digital transformation initiatives across multiple mining sites.
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the IT Director is accountable for enforcing IT governance, implementing technology solutions, and ensuring alignment with business and operational goals.
This role requires expertise in IT leadership, cybersecurity, operational technology (OT) integration, and enterprise systems management, ensuring high availability, security, and efficiency of IT systems in remote and challenging mining environments.
- IT Strategy & Leadership
Execute the IT strategy and roadmap as directed by the CTO.
Lead IT planning, goal setting, and budgeting for infrastructure, operations, and digital transformation.
Establish and enforce IT governance, policies, and business continuity plans.
Collaborate with internal stakeholders, IT vendors, and business units to ensure continuous improvement in IT services.
Drive IT process improvements to enhance efficiency, security, and operational performance.
- Infrastructure & Systems Management
Maintain, support, and optimize IT infrastructure, including networking, servers, cloud and on-premise systems.
Oversee and manage ERP systems, asset management software, and specialized mining technologies.
Ensure high availability and reliability of IT services, minimizing downtime for mining operations.
Plan and execute IT system upgrades, maintenance, and lifecycle management.
- Operational Technology (OT) & Automation
Oversee the integration of IT and OT systems to improve mining efficiency and productivity.
Implement and support SCADA, Industrial IoT (IIoT), predictive maintenance, and AI-driven processes.
Ensure seamless IT-OT alignment to support remote connectivity, automation, and real-time analytics.
Collaborate with operational teams to optimize data-driven production and maintenance strategies.
- Cybersecurity & Compliance
Enforce cybersecurity policies, procedures, and risk management frameworks.
Implement multi-layered security measures, including firewalls, endpoint protection, access controls, encryption.
Conduct regular risk assessments, penetration testing, and security audits.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations (ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR, and mining cybersecurity standards).
Oversee incident response planning and disaster recovery strategies.
Monitor IT vendor SLAs (Service Level Agreements) and cybersecurity KPIs to ensure compliance and data integrity.
- Data & Analytics
Implement business intelligence tools and big data analytics to drive data-driven decision-making.
Oversee geospatial data management, mine planning software, and predictive analytics platforms.
Support data governance and integration of analytics solutions into mining operations.
- IT Service Management & Support
Manage the IT support team, including internal staff and outsourced service providers.
Provide training and professional development for IT personnel.
Optimize IT service desk operations, ensuring fast response times and proactive issue resolution.
Enforce company-wide IT policies and end-user computing standards.
- Budget & Vendor Management
Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective technology investments.
Research, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with IT vendors to optimize service quality and cost efficiency.
Oversee IT vendor relationships, ensuring they meet contractual obligations and provide value-driven solutions.
Ensure IT vendors conduct regular audits of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and external systems.
- Team & Company Support
?? Participate in staff meetings and company functions, supporting overall business operations.
Foster a positive and motivated IT team, ensuring high engagement and productivity.
Act as a trusted partner, ensuring IT initiatives align with business needs and operational efficiency.
Education & Experience
Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in IT leadership roles, preferably in mining, manufacturing, or heavy industry.
5+ years of Project Management experience, PMP certification is an asset but not required.
Technical Skills
Good knowledge of ERP systems, SCADA, IoT, AI, and cloud computing.
Experience in cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, and OT integration.
Familiarity with automation technologies, industrial control systems, and remote connectivity challenges.
Knowledge of virtualization, Cloud, IT service management tools, and project management software.
Soft Skills
Proven leadership and strategic planning skills, with experience managing IT teams and budgets.
Good problem-solving skills, ability to work under pressure, and manage multiple priorities.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
