Job Description:

The Project Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership, governance, and oversight for the successful delivery of large-scale or complex projects. This role ensures that projects are aligned with organizational goals, delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards. The Project Director acts as the primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, manages risks, and ensures effective resource allocation to achieve project objectives.

 

Key Roles of a Project Director

  1. Strategic Leadership:
    • Provide overall direction and vision for the project.
    • Align project objectives with organizational goals and stakeholder expectations.
    • Ensure the project delivers value and meets its intended outcomes.
  2. Governance and Oversight:
    • Establish and maintain project governance frameworks.
    • Monitor project progress, risks, and performance against key milestones.
    • Ensure compliance with organizational policies, regulations, and standards.
  3. Stakeholder Management:
    • Act as the primary point of contact for senior stakeholders, sponsors, and clients.
    • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring their needs and expectations are understood and addressed.
    • Communicate project status, risks, and issues to stakeholders effectively.
  4. Resource Management:
    • Oversee the allocation and utilization of resources (budget, personnel, equipment, etc.).
    • Ensure the project team has the necessary skills and support to deliver the project.
  5. Risk Management:
    • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks that could impact project success.
    • Develop contingency plans to address potential issues.
  6. Financial Oversight:
    • Manage the project budget, ensuring costs are controlled and the project remains financially viable.
    • Approve expenditures and ensure financial reporting is accurate and timely.
  7. Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure the project delivers high-quality outputs that meet agreed-upon standards.
    • Implement quality control processes and monitor adherence to them.
  8. Decision-Making:
    • Make high-level decisions to resolve issues and keep the project on track.
    • Approve key deliverables, changes, and project plans.

    • Provide guidance and support to the project manager and team members.
    • Foster a collaborative and productive working environment.
  2. Reporting and Communication:
    • Ensure regular and transparent reporting on project status, risks, and performance.
    • Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization, from team members to executives.

 

Key Responsibilities of a Project Director

  1. Project Planning:
    • Oversee the development of the project plan, including scope, schedule, and budget.
    • Ensure the project plan aligns with organizational strategy.
  2. Project Execution:
    • Monitor the execution of the project, ensuring it stays on track and within scope.
    • Address any issues or roadblocks that arise during implementation.
  3. Change Management:
    • Manage changes to project scope, schedule, or budget, ensuring they are properly evaluated and approved.
    • Communicate changes to stakeholders and ensure their impact is understood.
  4. Performance Monitoring:
    • Track project performance using key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics.
    • Take corrective action when performance deviates from the plan.
  5. Project Closure:
    • Ensure the project is formally closed, including the delivery of final outputs and documentation.
    • Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and areas for improvement.
  6. Compliance and Ethics:
    • Ensure the project adheres to legal, regulatory, and ethical standards.
    • Promote a culture of integrity and accountability within the project team.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in PE board recognized Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Master’s Civil degree or / with MBA (preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in project management, with at least 5 years in a leadership or project director-level role.
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering large-scale, complex projects on time and within budget.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams and working with senior stakeholders.
